An extraction means to have a tooth removed, usually because of disease, trauma or crowding. Removing a tooth is necessary when decay or an abscessed tooth is so severe that no other treatment will cure the infection.
Here at Premier Smiles, Dr. Arhiri will provide local anesthetic to numb the area surrounding the tooth before he proceeds with the extraction.
What To Expect After Surgery
- Take painkillers as prescribed by your dentist or oral surgeon
- Eat fresh pineapple (not the canned one)- it has an enzyme named bromelain that helps you in the healing process
- Avoid smoking
- Eat soft food ( avoid spicy food)
- No drinking/swallowing from straw
- No jumping/jogging
After the tooth is removed, you may need stitches, stitches that dissolve over time.
The healing from teeth extraction usually occurs within three to five days. It is normal to have slight bleeding where the wisdom tooth had been. Complete healing of the gums may take three to four weeks.
Wisdom teeth. Keep them or remove them?
Wisdom teeth are the teeth which appear the last ones, and opinions regarding their removal are split. There are certain situations which require the removal. But the best thing you can do is to discuss with your dentist and decide what it is better for your oral health. Problems with wisdom teeth may include infections, tooth decay, gum disease, damage to the neighboring teeth, pain and discomfort. Sometimes they may only partially erupt, or be trapped in your jaw or under your gums. This means they are impacted and unable to emerge. As wisdom teeth try to emerge, they can push other teeth out of the way and interfere with orthodontic work . Since they have little function and they may cause oral health problems, wisdom teeth will end up being removed.
